NEW YEAR MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN STUDENT AFFAIRS AKWA IBOM STATE POLYTECHNIC. MR. EMMANUEL UMOH

AKWA IBOM STATE POLYTECHNIC IKOT OSURUA, IKOT EKPENE OFFICE OF THE DEAN STUDENTS' AFFAIRS NEW YEAR MESSAGE Warm Greetings to you all and Welcome to the year 2022. We are alive today not by powers we posses or offices we occupy or by the Might we claim to have but by the Divine mercies and Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ who is still the reason for the season. It gives me much joy to address us via this channel which I believe is accessible to a vast majority of our Students. I urge us all to read carefully every line of sentence that will be written here as it will be helpful to us all. For the sake of our newly admitted students, I will keep the words simple for easy comprehension. First, the 2021/2022 Academic Session commenced fully from Tuesday 4th January, 2022. Accordingly, all returning/current students who are yet to clear any outstanding, are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. To the newly admitted students, payment of acceptance fee is not a criteria that you are a registered student in the institution. Payment of school fees and further registration at your various Departments ensures your full acceptability as a registered student in the institution. The portal is now open, do the best you can to ensure that you pay the prescribed fees on time and register in your respective departments to avoid the consequences of late payment and possible withdrawal of the admission. Secondly, to our newly admitted students, we advise that you socialize but avoid any company that will lead you astray. The main purpose of your being here is to study, get the knowledge, acquire the skills and put it into good use for yourself and the benefit of the society. Avoid any form of friendship that will lead you away from this goal. Select your friends carefully. Always remember the expectations of your FAMILIES. This opportunity is golden, please treat it as such. Thirdly, SECURITY is everyone's business and as such be vigilant at all times. Do not trust anyone including your very close friends. To the newly admitted students, the Management of the institution has graciously made hostels available for your accommodation. The hostels are more secured and affordable at the rate of #30,000 per session. Interested students should contact the Domestic Unit of the institution for more information. If you wish to stay off campus, please be vigilant at all times. Avoid late night outings. Ensure you lock your windows, doors and protectors from time to time and around 6.30pm. Only go out when it is necessary. Endeavor to purchase a torchlight and avoid walking the streets with your phones during late hours. Acquaint yourself with the Youth Presidents and leaders of Vigilante groups in the various communities of your residence in case of any emergency. Report all forms of threats to the security personnel for immediate and prompt interventions. BE WISE! BE CONSCIOUS! Fourthly, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic is a brand and it is our collective responsibility to protect it. As we resume for another academic session, we encourage you to avoid INDECENT DRESSING on campus as much as possible. Dress the way you wish to be addressed. We are not against your dressing styles but as much as possible try and be modest. All forms of immodest dressing will not be tolerated. This is an institution where you are taught good morals and it must be seen in you. Accordingly, the law against Indecent dressing on campus is still in full force. Do not expose yourself to the security personnel for embarrassment. Again, "As you dress, so shall you be addressed". Again, the school Hostels are still available, affordable and comfortable for you to stay. Staying in the hostels will afford you the opportunity of enjoying the facility boost of 24 hours water supply, 24 hours free Wi-Fi, serene reading environment, tight security and as a bonus, a kitchen where you are permitted to cook your own meals. Visit the Domestic Unit of the institution for more details. Let me place this as a CAUTION to all our newly admitted students: Do not entrust any amount of money to anybody for any form of payments (be it school fees, departmental dues, SUG utility fee etc) no matter who the person claims to be. Not everyone you see is a student or has your best interest at heart. So, avoid falling a victim to their schemes and 2022 project. Management of the institution will not be held accountable if you fall victim to such person(s). To our newly admitted students, if you have any complain on extra charges or being faced with any challenge in the course of your registration at your departments, please feel very free to visit my office or call the attention of the SUG President, Speaker of Parliament, Director of Information SUG for assistance. Trust that the matter will be attended to immediately. Social media is good but it also has it own negative side. Be careful of information you post on the social media to avoid had I known. All pieces of information at your disposal should be properly investigated for factual reportage. My office is open 24 hours to attend to all forms of complaints. You can also reach out to my Information Officer, Comrade Edidiong Williams who is always on standby to attend to you. Be properly guided please. Finally, let me use this medium to condole with the families and friends of our students who passed away in the course of their Academic pursuits. May the souls of our departed students and other faithfuls through the Mercy of God rest in Peace. Amen. Once again, I wish all our returning and the newly admitted students a better, productive, successful and more rewarding year 2022. Amen. Thank you and remain blessed! Mr. Emmanuel Umoh Dean, Students Affairs 05-01-2022
